Frequently asked questions

Can I heat-seal a chenille patch?

Yes! You can heat-seal chenille patches as long as they have a heat-seal (iron-on) adhesive backing. However, because chenille's raised yarn loops can easily crush under direct pressure or high heat, special care is needed during the application process. Step-by-Step Heat-Seal Application Guide Recommended Settings: Temperature: 320°F – 330°F (160°C) Pressure: Light to Medium Time: 15 – 20 seconds 1.Pre-Heat the Garment:Prerequisite. Pre-press the fabric area for 5 to 10 seconds to eliminate moisture and wrinkles. 2.Position the Patch:1 min. Place the chenille patch in your desired location on the garment. 3.Protect the Chenille Pile:Critical Safety Step. Cover the patch with a Teflon sheet, silicone pad, or damp pressing cloth. Never apply bare metal heat directly to the chenille loops. 4.Initial Top Press:15-20 sec. Press with light-to-medium pressure for 15 to 20 seconds. Avoid excessive pressure to prevent crushing the soft yarn texture. 5.Reverse Press (Best Practice):15-20 sec. Flip the garment inside out and apply heat directly to the back of the fabric for another 15 to 20 seconds. This drives the adhesive deep into the fabric fibers without damaging the plush front loops. 6.Cool Completely:3-5 min. Allow the garment to cool completely flat before moving or wearing it to ensure the adhesive bond cures properly.

Can I get my chenille patch with sew-on or heat-seal backing?

Yes, absolutely! We provide both sew-on and heat-seal options. Simply specify your preferred application method during the ordering process.

What size options and custom shapes are available for chenille patches?

We create custom chenille patches in virtually any shape or size to match your design. From standard geometric outlines to intricate cut-to-shape contours, our team precision-crafts your patches to meet exact specifications. Size Range: Patches can be crafted from small 2-inch accent pieces up to large 12-inch back-jacket designs. Custom Cut Shapes: Choose between classic standard borders (circle, square, oval, shield) or custom die-cut shapes that follow the exact outline of your artwork. Detailing & Edges: Smaller patches (under 4 inches) work best with simplified outlines, while larger patches accommodate complex shapes and additional border layers.

How many colors can I use in my chenille patch design?

For larger designs, you can select up to 9 distinct colors. For smaller patches, the maximum color count depends on the overall size—for patches under 4 inches, we recommend limiting your design to 6 colors to ensure optimal detail and crisp definition.

Is chenille good for small or large designs, and can I get small details in it?

Chenille works best for mid-sized to large designs where its plush, wool-like texture can stand out. Because chenille uses thick yarn loops, fine details and small text cannot be rendered cleanly using chenille alone. To achieve small details on a chenille patch, we combine the design with embroidery or chain stitching. Our design team will evaluate your artwork and recommend the best mix of chenille and embroidery to preserve fine details while keeping the classic plush texture.
